George Pillsbury for The Gospels Sake

1 Corinthians 9:23 

“And this I do for the Gospel’s sake…”

George Pillsbury was a blessed Man, who was a great Christian and great business man.

He was born on August 29, 1816 In Sutton, New Hampshire. He grew up with in a wealthy business minded family, but they never set aside Godliness for Riches. 

He was raised with great education and graduated from school, he married mrs. Margaret Sprague Carleton. They had 3 children, one of which died in infancy. 

Mr. Pillsbury spent time in New Hampshire working as a member of state legislator.

He also worked for the Concord Railway as a purchasing agent and treasurer. 

The Pillsbury’s would eventually move to Minneapolis where Mr. Pilsbury would work for the family business started by his grandfather, Pillsbury Flour Company. 

He would continue in Politics as Mayor of Minneapolis. 

There is a lot of wonderful things mister Pillsbury accomplished his life, but none more meaningful than what he did for the Lord. 

He used his riches to invest into his church, First Baptist Church of Minneapolis, he generously supported missions, and he invested into young preachers by starting and teaching in Bible College. 

He started what would be called, “Pillsbury Academy.” And later, after his death would be named, “Pillsbury Baptist Bible College.” 

Mr. Pillsbury’s Pastor, Dr. W. B. Riley, said of Mr. Pillsbury, “He obtained great wealth, that it might be used to the Glory of God.”

There have been an untold number of preachers that have gone all over the world as the results of this one family.
